Welcome to Advanced Writing!

Hello to my unique students. Welcome to Adanced Writing! I am looking forward to getting to know you all this term and helping you with your writing. As I mentioned in the first class, it seems that some students are afraid of writing or don't like it as much as, say, listening and speaking. Taking writing class does not mean just sitting around writing and doing grammar exercises. This class will also be very communicative, as a key component of this class is sharing your work with your classmates and getting feedback from them. It is very important to cooperate with this feedback, as there is only 1 teacher but 19 students! So, although I am the "main" teacher, you will also have 18 fellow "readers."
This class will be both serious and fun. It will be serious because writing is challenging and takes hard work. Plus, writing is one of the most important skills you need if you want to, for example, study overseas. But it will also be fun because you will have the chance to communicate with your classmates and learn many interesting things about them.
Once again, the purpose of this blog is writing fluency. I will not be checking your blogs for grammar mistakes or something like that. It is just a way for you to write outside of class on more and more topics and get more and more comfortable with writing in English.
By the way, I know what it's like to be in your shoes! When I was a college student--a "few" years ago--my major was English Writing Arts. I chose this major because it gave me the freedom to explore many different topics and write about them. I hope you can enjoy writing in the same way. I know how hard it is sometimes to get new ideas, so just keep working hard and don't get frustrated.
Finally, do you understand the meaning of my blog title? The lightbulb is the symbol for having an idea. You have probably seen this in cartoons when the light bulb appears in a bubble over the character's head. Well, I chose this title to give you all good luck. I hope that you have many lightbulbs this semester and can constantly come up with good ideas. Although they say that writing is "1 part inspiration and 99 parts perspiration," it is also true that often just getting the first idea is the hardest part. Good luck and welcome to class!
